John Denver was a superstar performer who influenced millions of people with his pop-folk songs and many of them based in Colorado. Henry John Deutschendorf Jr. was born Henry John Germandorf from Roswell near New Mexico, fell in love with Colorado. He settled in Aspen. Denver's state anthems inspired people to travel to Colorado. G. Brown, curator of Colorado Music Hall of Fame said the following: John Denver is the only musician to truly embody Colorado. Denver was the Hall of Fame's first inductee, was honored with the award in the year 2011. He is the face of Colorado to many across the globe. While traveling, I may meet people at opposite sides of the globe. As an example, you might meet people who is from New Zealand. And when someone asks you if you're from Colorado you will get "Oh John Denver!" Brown stated. Take Me Home Country Roads was co-written by Bill Danoff - was Denver's first Top 10 single as a solo singer after a brief period in small folk ensembles. Danoff had originally written the tune using Johnny Cash's songs with a focus on Johnny Cash, however Denver knew from the first moment he listened to the earlier versions that it was going to be an instant hit. The singer recorded the song only a few days afterward following a performance to the awe-inspiring crowd in Washington D.C.
